Surat Two diamond polishers were severely beaten up by their factory owner on suspicion of theft of a diamond from the unit at the Nandu Doshi wadi area in Katargam on Sunday.

Nagjibhai Patel, a resident of Katargam, runs a diamond factory at Nandu doshi wadi.

On Sunday, a diamond which was given to Ajay Soni and Alpesh Gosai, two newly recruited polishers, was found missing.

The incident came to light at night when the diamond polishers handed over their diamonds to Nagjibhai.

Through his sources, Nagjibhai learnt about Soni and Gosai.

Around 60 diamond polishers working in the firm were allowed to go to their houses, while Soni and Gosai were locked up in a room and severely beaten up with sticks by the firm owner and two of his associates.

The diamond was found on one of the emery wheels after a clean up of the polishing area later.

Nagjibhai then allowed the two to go to their houses.

On Monday afternoon, Soni and Gosai went to the New Civil Hospital for treatment. The two were administered primary treatment.

Soni said: “We started working in the factory 10 days ago. We were new to the factory, compared to the other staffers. We suspect someone in the factory had given our names to the firm owner, which led to this incident. Even our mobile phones were snatched. We will lodge a complaint against the firm owner and his two associates.”
