Ludhiana, October 11 Though the police are tightlipped about the involvement of Mohit Sharma, sources said he has been arrested and the booty has been recovered from him. Mohit runs a jewellery showroom on the College Road in the city

In a sensation turnaround in the case of robbery of the Mumbai-based diamond merchant on Thursday evening, a senior police officer’s son is allegedly involved in the theft.

Though the police are tightlipped about the case, DIG Jalandhar Range Narinder Pal Singh confirmed that the son of Patiala SSP (Vigilance) Shiv Kumar, Mohit Sharma, is involved in the theft that took place near Phillaur. The SSP, when asked about it feigned ignorance and said he does not know anything about it.

Mohit, who runs a diamond jewellery showroom on the College Road here, however, has been arrested and the diamonds have been recovered from him.

Bhupesh Shah was looted of diamonds worth Rs 1.5 crore by some unidentified people when he was on his way from Ludhiana to Amritsar in a taxi hired from the city.

The merchant had come from Mumbai for a business transaction and was staying in a hotel on the Ferozepur Road here.

However, when they neared Phillaur, the taxi driver stopped to relieve himself.

Bhupesh Shah is said to have restrained him to stop there as he saw few men standing suspiciously but the driver stopped the car nevertheless. As the driver went out, four people attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. They fled from the scene after injuring him along with the taxi driver in the same car.
