Diamond worker commits suicide in Surat, another critical after consuming poison

Surat In two separate incidents in Surat on Monday, a diamond polisher committed suicide by hanging, while another attempted suicide by consuming poison at home. He was rushed to SMIMER Hospital where his condition is reported to be critical.

According to the police, Bhavesh Bhil (19) of Jalaram Society at Pandol in Katargam area of Surat, hanged himself to death in his room, on Monday afternoon.

The incident came to light when his uncle, Mukesh Bhil, came home for lunch and found his nephew’s body hanging from a hook in the roof. The body was later sent to New Civil Hospital for a postmortem.

Mukesh Bhil, who works in a diamond unit at Katargam, said: “Bhavesh worked in a diamond factory at Pandol till he went home during Diwali vacations. He returned to Surat about a month ago and has been jobless ever since. He was under depression, as he had his parents and two younger siblings to support.”

In the second incident, Dharmesh Soni (33), a resident of Lambe Hanuman Road at Varachha, attempted suicide by consuming poison in his house, on Monday afternoon. Soni was alone in the house at the time and his wife Bela had gone to the market. On returning home, she was shocked to find her husband lying unconscious on the floor.

He was rushed to SMIMER Hospital where his condition is reported to be critical.

Police said that Soni, a father of two children, has been jobless for the last three months.

He was under depression for the last couple of days and had approached many factories in search for a job.
