Kolkata Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee is in stable condition, doctors said at her Kalighat residence on Wednesday. “I have advised her to avoid receiving phone calls and take some sound rest. She must try and catch adequate sleep,” said Dr. Subrata Moitra who is attending to her.

Banerjee fell ill and complained of chest pain after returning from the Lalgarh rally on August 9. On the way to Kolkata, a car in her convoy had been hit from the rear by a truck, during which her vehicle screeched to a halt. Banerjee, sitting on the front seat, hit a rod she was holding and received a chest injury. Dr. Moitra said, she has a musculo-skeletal sprain in her ribs.

“At present she is being given antibiotics, pain killers, anti-acids and sleeping pills. An X-Ray is required. Depending on the report, we’ll be able to say whether a CT Scan is required. We are trying to convince her to go to the hospital for the tests at least,” said Dr Moitra.
