Kolkata Announcing the 2010 Rail Budget on the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindrnath Tagore, Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee promised a number of projects as a tribute to him.

Two new museums — Rabindra Museum in Howrah and Gitanjali Museum at Bolpur — were announced, in addition to the proposed remodelling of Bolpur station.

The minister also announced the setting up of the Shambhu Mitra Cultural complex — a state-of-the-art infrastructural facility for promoting culture and performing arts in Howrah.

“To help spread Tagore’s words among the younger generation”, Banerjee announced the launch of a special train Sanskriti Express.

With an aim to boost tourism in the country, the minister announced the launch of Bharat Tirth, a special tourist train. These trains would run from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, from Dwarka to Vindhya Parbat, from Ajmer Sharif to Gangasagar and from Madurai to Patna Sahib, she said.
