Kolkata Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today hit out at the UPA government saying her voice was not heard despite her party being the second largest constituent in the ruling coalition.

Mincing no words against Maoists a day after they shot dead two Trinamool supporters, the minister said, “Central forces are here in Lalgarh and Jangalmahal to supply oxygen to the CPM, which is conniving with the Maoists. There has been a lack of will on the part of the Centre in tackling the Maoists and we will not allow them to continue such killings and violence in Lalgarh and Jangalmahal.”

The Trinamool chief also dared the ultras saying she will hold a rally in their stronghold of Jhargram on January 15.

“The Centre is not sincere in tackling the Maoists in Bengal and its decision to send forces had indirectly helped the CPM. I have spoken many times to P Chidambaram. Today, I spoke to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and I feel there is a lack of will so far as fighting the Naxals is concerned,” she said, adding she had spoken to the prime minister too, but too no avail.

Banerjee said she would no longer depend either on the Centre or the state government to fight the Maoists. Instead, her party will fight them politically.

“Campaign against the Maoists will start from Jhargram on January 15 when I will address a gathering there. We will be holding similar rallies in all the three districts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore where the Maoists have reportedly established their dens,” a visibly angry minister said.

The railway minister has in the past voice her anger over the Maoists targetting the railways.

“The Maoists don’t have any right to hold courts and pass verdict. We have a Constitution. We will not tolerate these killings,” the Trinamool chief told reporters at her Kalighat residence.

“We fought battles at Singur and Nandigram against forcible land acquisition by the state government. We also fought the Rizwanur Rahaman death case on our own, with no help from the Centre or the state. We will also not need any help from any of the governments in Delhi or Kolkata to fight the Maoists. We will face them alone,” she said, while reiterating her old demand of deploying the Army to fight Naxals.
