DIET Jagraon organizes population education competitions

Ludhiana, January 8 District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagraon, organized competitions to mark Population Education Day under the guidance of its Principal, Joginder Singh Aulakh.

Inter-house competitions including quiz, declamation and singing were conducted to create awareness regarding the explosive increase in population, and the related problems. The competitions were held under the guidelines of Population Education Cell, State Institute of Science Education, Chandigarh.

In the programmme, more than 80 students of the Elementary Teachers’ Training (ETT) course took part. Each participant highlighted the problems caused by population explosion, the social evils, environmental pollution, unemployment, female foeticide etc. Subject experts Malti from Spring Dew Senior Secondary Public School, Jagraon; Harwinder Kaur from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Jagraon; and BK Bhandari, who retired as a lecturer from DIET, were the judges for these competitions.

In the quiz contest conducted by Professor Baldev Singh, English Lecturer at DIET, students of five houses took part. Surinder Kumar and Ravi of House Number 4, Rupinder Singh and Amrinder Kaur of Number 2, and Balram Juneja and Kusum Singla of House Number 5 won the first, second and third positions respectively.

In the declamation contest, Ramanpreet Kaur of House Number 3, Vijay Kumar of House Number 5 and Sarika Juneja of House Number 3 bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.

In the singing contest, Miss Veerpal Kaur of House Number 2, Balram Juneja of House Number 5 and Rubbina of House Number 4 stood first, second and third respectively.

In the essay writing contest conducted under the supervision of Prof Piara Singh, Veerpal Kaur of House Number 2, Navjeet Kaur of House Number 4 and Amarinder Kaur of House Number 2; and Ramanpreet Kaur of House Number 3 bagged the first, second and third positions respectively. In the painting contest, the first, second and third positions went to Kavita and Ramandeep Kaur, both from House Number 2, and Kusum Singla of House Number 5.

Principal Joginder Singh Aulakh congratulated the winners gave prizes to them. He motivated the students to develop a scientific and rational outlook in life. Pritpal Kaur and Harmeet Kaur were the time-keepers for the events.

Others to speak on the occasion included Jagdish Lal, Harbhajan Singh and Piara Singh. Gurdeep Kaur Dhaliwal of DAV Public School, Jagraon; DIET staff members Lakhvir Singh, Harminder Singh, Khushminder Pal Singh and Amritpal Kaur were also present on the occasion.
