Renowned automobile designer Dilip Chhabria shared his experience in automobile designing with the students, while Manish Tripathi, the chairman of the Dabbawala Foundation, gave them basic information about keeping customers happy.

Dressed in his trademark white topi and kurta, Tripathi said: “Had there been management scholars handling Dabbawalas, it would not have been a big deal, but we have been managing the entire set-up without the use of latest technology for the last 116 years. There are over 5,000 employees who courier fresh home made food everyday."

He also took a dig at the politicians. He said none of them made any attempt to meet and value their work, but soon after Prince Charles met them, politicians queued up, including Uddhav Thakre and Narayan Rane. He said for them there is nothing more important than customer service.

Tripathi said: “We just gave ten minutes to Prince Charles because we wanted to serve food to our customers on time. We have received the Six Sigma accreditation and also ratings from IIM-Ahmedabad, but it doesn’t matter much. We continue to do our work.”

Dilip Chabria discussed his recent project, one of them being General Motors Beat Prototype model. “There are manufacturers who have approached us for this model,” he said, adding that since automobiles come under a niche market there has not been any effect of the meltdown in India.

He said some of his recent projects involve redesigning the cars of Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan.

He added: “The government should support entrepreneurs in the automobile industry. There is a risk in every business. However, this is a defining time for the world economy, and automobile designs should be promoted.”
