The only child of Seshi Reddy and Ramakottama were informed about their son’s arrest by Bengal CID on March 2.
The Reddys live in a small hamlet called Koppolu, nearly 100 km from Hyderabad.
“It was our duty, and we have informed his parents about the arrest in Kolkata, but they didn’t make any formal request to meet their son,” said Naveen Chanda, SP of Prakasham district in Andhra Pradesh.
On asked whether the district police would take any initiative if Dipak’s parents show inclination to meet him, Chanda replied: “It is a very delicate issue and it will not be justified to make a comment on this right now.”
“Let them make a formal request. The issue has a humanitarian angle. We will definitely consider it sympathetically,” Chanda added.
According to the SP, Dipak left his home in 1989 after he became involved with student politics while studying engineering at Guntur Engineering College and then with Maoists.
“According to police reports, he came back only once in 1997,” Chanda said.
The Andhra Pradesh government had declared a reward of Rs 10-lakh reward for Dipak’s arrest, as he was wanted in several cases in the state.
A member of Maoist State Military Commission of Bengal chapter, Dipak is considered a close aide of Kishenji. He was responsible for detailed planning execution of Maoist operations in the Jangalmahal area of Bengal, and was behind all major strikes in West Bengal in recent times.
