The two finished DLF campus buildings in off-white and blue mosaic ulterior and the Infosys campus, with its distinct anchor shaped glass building, around 5,000 people have already started working in offices here.
With each leap, it is becomning clear that the park will not be your usual sea of concrete. The days to come will see a common food court for employees, facilities like gymnasia, small coffee shops, a squash court and the much talked about DLF multiplex.
While Infosys is building an additional block adjacent to the existing one, DLF’s first block is dedicated to a mall-cum-multiplex. there are going to be three other blocks in the building to house software companies like IBM Daksh, Tech Mahindra and Infosys.
Slow progress
Some feel that the park could have been developed at a faster pace. “When I moved in around May 2005, I thought in two years, the place would be full of other campuses. But it didn’t happen. The one general impression here is that companies are slow to come and complete work,” says an employee at the park. Tech Mahindra, whose campus is to come up in Phase II of the project, claims it is incurring losses because of the slow speed of work on fencing the SEZ area. “We were told that work will begin on October but we have been waiting for three months. Till the area is completely fenced, we will not be able to get the benefits of an SEZ like duty-free construction...,” says Ranjit Puri of Tech Mahindra. A Wipro campus will come up in the SEZ area. UT Chief Engineer S K Jaitley says fencing of the SEZ will take another month and a half as the tendering of work is in progress. Director IT Manjit Brar says, “We have our own set of norms and procedures which can not be changed. The tender should be finalised in a week’s time and we can not change the procedure for a company”. The administration is planning to erect an over six-feet high fence with two gates.
So far
According to data available with the UT Administration, around Rs 35 crore has been spent in the first two phases of the park on 350 acres. expenditure of Rs 38 crore more is on the cards. Phase III will be the biggest and will come up on 270 acres. In the last financial year, the total software exports from the park were Rs 200 crore out of the total Rs 600 crore for the tricity. With Infosys and DLF campus in Phase I of the park, Tech Mahindra is constructing its campus in Phase II where Wipro is the anchor company. Other companies that will be a part of Phase II include e-sys Bharti Technologies. the first two phases will also have IT Habitat (Housing by Parsvnath), a five-star hotel site allotted to DLF, UT’s Entrepreneur Development Centre along with 13 built-to-suit sites.
The total investment by companies is estimated to be around Rs 6000 crore. The park is expected to generate direct employment for 60,000 people.
