As a second round to keep a check on quacks in the district, the Vadodara District Health Officials called upon the Block Health Officers of 11 talukas of the district. According to health officials, out of the 190 notices served during the inspection, only eight doctors have responded to abstain from medical irregularities.
In an investigation carried out last week, cases were filed against over 22 doctors for practising without proper medical degrees, while 120 ayurvedic and homeopathic doctors were served notices for practising allopathic medicine in villages.
The investigating teams had also identified hospitals and clinics that dispose of biomedical waste in an improper manner. In all, over 190 notices were served to various doctors, hospitals and clinics over the irregularities observed, but only eight doctors have replied so far confirming the district health officials on their corrective measures.
“Since we have not got any positive response from the allopathic and homeopathic doctors, we have directed the BHOs to conduct a check on all these doctors,” said R V Patel, district health official.
In the investigation, the teams found that over 25 hospitals and clinics did not dispose of the biomedical waste in a proper way. “The waste should be disposed of within 48 hours, but many hospitals and clinics take over a week or even a fortnight before they clear out the waste,” said Patel.
He added that if doctors were found continuing with such practises, the district health officials would be forced to inform the Gujarat Medical Council, the Board of Ayurvedic and Unani Systems of Medicine and Council of Homeopathic System of Medicine, which will take further action against the doctors.
