Now, the DMRC will begin a detailed study on the city’s traffic situation and transportation, based on which, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared for the introduction Metro Rail in Lucknow.
The MoU was signed between LDA Vice-Chairman Mukesh Kumar Meshram and DMRC Director (Works) Mangu Singh. According to the agreement, the DPR will be prepared within a period of 9 months and the total fee for the same will be Rs 4 crore.
LDA Joint Director (Land and Development) S B Mishra said: “The DMRC was supposed to start preparations for the DPR around one-and-a-half months ago. But as it did not happen, it will now have to complete the project in the next seven-and-a-half months.” Mishra said Rs 90 lakh has already been paid to DMRC for the job.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mangu Singh said: “The DMRC will be a consultant in this project. This MoU was a formal agreement to ensure that LDA has accepted the terms and conditions of DMRC.”
Singh added that a team of DMRC will visit Lucknow on February 11 to select agencies which will conduct technical survey of the city’s traffic situation and probable routes.
As per the demographic features of the city, development of residential/commercial areas and travel pattern of the commuters, DMRC has identified two metro corridors for Lucknow — Corridor 1 (North-South Corridor) from Lucknow airport to Munshipulia and Corridor 2 (East-West Corridor) from Gomti Nagar to Rajajipuram.
The LDA Board had approved the proposal of DMRC preparing a DPR for Metro Rail on October 13, 2008.
