Rajkot, January 8 Even as parents of Vimal Ramani maintain that the body found within their factory premises is of their son, the police, on Tuesday asked the Ramani couple to go in for a DNA test to establish the identify of the burnt corpse. They also asked the parents of Babu Salat, a labourer at Ramani factory, for a DNA test, as their 19-year-old boy went missing on that very day, January 5, the body was discovered. “Blood samples of the parents of Vimal and Babu Salat have been sent to the Gandhinagar Forensic Laboratory ,” said the police.

A stabbed, strangulated and charred body of a young man was found at the Nayan Casting factory in Atika on Saturday. Initially the police believed it was that of Vimal, but further investigation suggested that he might have faked his own murder, to elope with his married paramour, his neighbour at Purusharthnagar in Rajkot.

“Vimal was tall and fair, whereas the body is of a man of average physique. Besides, a patch of non-burnt skin has revealed that the deceased had a whitish complexion. Also, sandals worn by Salat have been found hidden in the factory,” said the police.

They said there were circumstantial evidences to suggest that the body did not belong to Vimal. Someone very familiar with the premises orchestrated the murder, they said.

Vimal’s family, however, insists that the body belongs to their son. They performed his last rites on Sunday.
