Ludhiana Although Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today assured that fuel prices will be reduced in the coming weeks, transporters refused to budge as the strike entered its third day today. The members said till the time the Petroleum ministry does not take a concrete step, they will not call off the stir. “Such assurances have been given in the past too,” said Charan Singh Lohara, President, All-India Motor Transport Congress.

Meanwhile, the supplies of essential items, including fruits and vegetables, were normal today. The transporters also burnt the effigy of the Petroleum minister.

The protest got a political hue after the visit of Lok Bhalai Party head B S Ramoowalia who also held that the demand was genuine.
