New Delhi Two doctors were injured after a vehicle driven by a man in an inebriated condition rammed them in Adarsh Nagar area of North West Delhi on Sunday. The accused driver was then beaten up by locals, said police officials.

Police officials said that a Santro car driven by the accused, Pawan Kumar hit Dr Deepshika and Dr Gopal Kumar Khimkaj around 10:45 pm on Sunday near Keval Park of Adarsh Nagar. The doctor couple was out on a walk when the incident occurred.

“The duo suffered minor injuries and after moving them to one side of the road, a bystander called PCR. Before police arrived, locals gathered at the spot and started beating the two people inside the car, Pawan and Jitender Rana,” a senior police official said.

By the time cops arrived on the scene, the duo in the car was bleeding profusely and the police had to assure the crowd that both would be prosecuted. All four were then rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctor couple was discharged after first aid. A medical examination of the duo confirmed that they were drunk. The two have been arrested. The two doctors work at Bara Hindu Rao hospital. The Santo involved in the accident has been confiscated, officials added.
