Chandigarh In a civil suit filed by four advocates, seeking mandatory injunction to control the stray dog menace in the city, a lower court issued notices to the UT adviser, home secretary, municipal commissioner, deputy commissioner and the UT senior superintendent of police on Friday. The hearing has been fixed for January 13.

The petition pleaded that the authorities had failed to take steps to curb the menace and the residents were repeatedly falling prey to stray dogs on the city roads.

The petition follows the incident where a district and sessions judge was bitten by a rabid dog in Sector 24 earlier this week.

The petitioners said the helpline started by the municipal corporation was a mere eyewash.

They claimed to have made a number of calls to the number when a group of dogs was seen in Sector 43 but no one responded.
