One can find them resting on the staircase of the main station building, loitering at will in the concourse and also in the building, housing computerised reservation counters! Not just that, they can be located even at the entrance of the Divisional Railway Manager’s office. Mercifully, there is no reported incident of a dog biting any passenger so far.
Asked about the menace, Divisional Manager of Ahmedabad Rajiv Mishra said that there was little that the railways could do to stop stray dogs if they are found in the circulation area and the concourse. “The civic body, which has a dog control squad, can come to the help of railways in controlling this,” Mishra agreed.
However, he lamented that so far, there was no move from the AMC to cover the station area. He claimed that dogs were not found on the platforms. He said the AMC men would not come to attend the complaints.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Captain Dilip Kumar Mahajan said that the last time, railway administration had approached the AMC in this connection, was two years ago.
“We had then carried out a drive to catch stray dogs from the entire station area, including platforms,” he said. Thereafter, they may have sent complaints at lower levels but the impact of such small operations remains limited, he said.
