Dandruff sticks to you like pesky, unwanted company. Even if you have washed your hair using an anti-dandruff shampoo, the dandruff makes its presence felt after a few hours. Dandruff is one of the most common hair problems. There is no complete cure for dandruff, but it can be effectively controlled by understanding its causes.

Dandruff is caused due to excessive sebum production on the scalp, says Dr Sachin Tolat, dermatologist. The shedding of this scalp skin, called dandruff, is usually invisible. However, at times, it goes out of control, setting white flakes on your shoulders, causing itching and, worst of all, embarrassment.

Dandruff can weaken roots and even lead to hair fall. It sticks to the skin of the scalp in a cake form and blocks free flow of air to the roots. As a result hair becomes weak at the roots.

Once dandruff sets in, we simply head to buy the best anti-dandruff shampoo available or start practising home-made solutions to get rid of the menace. It strikes back as soon as the effect wears off. Also some of the anti-dandruff shampoos contain chemicals that can have side-effects and cause irritation to the scalp and even damage the eyes.

It is between these hair washes and applications of home remedies that you require something that stays on and protects hair against dandruff.

Causes of Dandruff
* Hormonal imbalance
* Stress and anxiety
* Allergies
* Poor hygiene
* Heredity
* Improper use of chemical treatments and products
* Climatic changes
* Improper shampooing

Anti-dandruff hair creams
There are now hair creams available that work 24 hours. They can be applied directly after hair wash. The best thing about these creams is that they not only guard the scalp from dandruff, but also nourish hair. They effectively shield hair from recurring dandruff until the next shampoo.

How to get rid of dandruff
* Oil hair regularly
* Wash hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo regularly
* Use a hair cream with dandruff fighting properties for 24 hour protection from dandruff
* Stay away from chemical treatments n Maintain a balanced diet
*n Beat stress. Stay happy
*n If dandruff persists, check with your physician
* Stop worrying about dandruff
