Pune, January 6 The second convention of All India Brahmin Mahasabha today decided to register 25 lakh members in two years across the State to strengthen the Brahmin community and put it as a role model for other states to follow. The convention also appealed the community to think of what they can do for the society and not to go into the shell.

The convention was held at Ideal Colony ground in Kothrud. Swami Shree Sushmindra Teertha and Shree Suyatindra Teertha of Shree Raghavendra Swami Math inaugurated the convention. Noted Marathi author Sachchidanand Shevde, Aralumallige Parthsarathi, Govind Kulkarni, executive president of All India Brahmin Mahasabha, Madhav Harihar and others were also present. Organiser of the convention Sandeep Khardekar said there was a pressing need for the Brahmin community to come together. “Brahmins have contributed to the Independence movement, but after Independence, they have gone into a shell. Almost 55 percent Brahmins in rural areas are underprivileged. The convention is meant to help them come out of the situation,” he said.
