This follows a state government directive asking state RTOs to reduce the auto fares by Rs 2. According to Baba Shinde, RTA member, this has been implemented in Bombay and Thane.
"In Bombay and Thane, majority of the auto drivers run on CNG. In Pune it's different. In a scenario, where prices are rising of just about everything - food, spae parts, taxes, loans, parking fee, its unfair to expect auto fares to go down because the international crude prices have fallen. This is a temporary aspect which could reverse itself," said Baba Adhav, president of Rickshaw Panchayat. The next meeting will be held on February 16th once again to decide the fare rates.
Meanwhile, the PMPML board met today for the first time after the new chief Nitin Khade took over. But the issue of the reduction of bus fares has not been discussed yet. It will be taken up on February 16th as well.
