The Chakan police has registered a case under Section 143 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the villagers. Police said the villagers were preventing vehicles from heading towards the construction site. "They were gathering in huge numbers to block the vehicle,' 'said one of the police officer.
On Tuesday, three trucks along with the State Reserve Police (SRP) van crossed the site and actually tried to end the agitation which the villagers had strongly put up for 40 days.
Meanwhile activists from Lokayat, Lokshashan andolan and Hamal Panchyat representative Baba Adhav met the resident deputy collector to find out how SRPF could be used to allow vehicles to ply to the site.
Neeraj Jain from Lokayat said that was an assurance earlier that the status quo of the agitation would be maintained till the state committee gave it report on the present Dow imbroglio. Former high court judge BG Kolse Patil said that this was an "unfair practice'.” “Women have taken over to play sentry and there are over 100 women who have gathered at the site to continue with the agitation,” he said
