Ganges Grill at Oh! Calcutta wows Pune foodies with its spread of grilled, broiled and fried Bengali seafood specialities

It surely was a culinary journey down the Ganges last week when Oh! Calcutta, the recently launched eatery on Dhole Patil Road, that is fast gaining popularity, came up with Ganges Grill, a whole new experience in relishing sea food. With the patio of the restaurant converted into a grill lounge, you had the guests, who included actor Deven Verma and culinary queen Karen Anand, tucking into the delights conjured up by chefs. Fresh river fish spiced with delicate Bengali spices and aromas, coupled with European touches of cooking like grilling and broiling had guests asking for more.

From the Hooghly Lobster Grill, Polo Club Hilsa, Spiced River Carp Patties, King Fish with Paprika to Mymensigh Style Mullet, Roasted Cumin and Thyme Flavoured Club Chicken, there was something for everyone here. For the veggies, Mushrooms gently steamed with Bengal mustard and chilies, in banana leaves is just one delicious example. The Cottage Cheese Roullade is full of the garden freshness of Bengali herbs folded in the cottage cheese which are then pan-grilled. Trinca's Potato Basket or fresh grilled crispy potato skin peaked with oregano and spiced stuffing, Sutanuti Vegetable Skewer of baby corn and assorted vegetables gently grilled with the unique Bengali touch of mango mustard are other delectable dishes. Chef Joymalya Banerjee, the Chef de Cuisine of Ganges Grill has married British and Bengali styles from the Raj era in his cuisine. The brand chef of Oh! Calcutta in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Delhi, he says, "I am a traveller on a journey through the world of cuisines. I hold all cuisines of the world in extremely high esteem as they can teach you so much."
