Amritsar, February 5 DR PK Sareen, kingpin of 2003 kidney racket, has been found guilty of duping a Ludhiana resident, Prof Kiran Kapoor, in a DSP-level inquiry by the district police.

The inquiry report submitted to SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh indicted Dr Sareen, who is underground following the unearthing of another kidney racket in Gurgaon. Prof Kapoor, in a written complaint to the Amritsar SSP, had stated that she was duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by Dr Sareen, who neither conducted the operation nor returned the money. She also accused Dr Sareen, who is on bail, of conducting transplants outside Punjab.

There were reports that Prof Kapoor had withdrawn her complaint following a promise by Dr Sareen through some of his acquaintances that the money would be returned. "The DSP's inquiry has reached me. Dr Sareen has been found guilty in the probe. We will seek legal advice and further action will be taken," confirmed Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh.

When asked about Dr Sareen performing operations despite his involvement in the kidney racket, the SSP said the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Prof Kapoor was being pressurised to withdraw her complaint.
