Ludhiana Highlighting the illegal trade of psychotropic and intoxicating drugs that prevails in the state, the Health department seized a huge cache of habit-inducing drugs from two godowns at Pindi Street on Friday afternoon.

The drugs were estimated to be worth over Rs 2.5 lakh in the local market.

“Over l.33 lakh tablets, 36,000 capsules, 1,521 injections and 907 bottles of syrup have been confiscated. Two cartons of drugs were seized from one of the godowns, while five cartons were stored in the other,” said District Drug Inspector Rajesh Suri.

The unlicensed godowns, situated on the first and third floor of Sant Tower at Pindi Street, were raided by a team led by Assistant Drug Controller Pradeep Mattu.

The team comprised Drug Inspectors Rajesh Suri from Ludhiana, Karan Sachdeva from Kapurthala and Amit Duggal from Patiala along with Dr Rina Sandhu representing civil surgeon Dr S P Sharma.

“It is suspected that the godowns are owned by a big medical centre in the city,” said Suri.

All the seized drugs are categorised as Schedule H (cannot be sold over the counter without any medical prescription).

The drugs were, however, being sold openly in the market and are easily accessible.

This was the third raid conducted in Pindi Street since the beginning of the year. On January 17, psychotropic drugs worth Rs 15 lakh were seized from four stores on Pindi Street.
