According to the students, part of a group called Centre for Struggling Women (CSW), many cases that came up before the university’s Apex Complaints Committee over the last few years are pending.
The committee takes the final decision on cases relating to sexual harassment. The protesters wanted the committee to reveal the number of complaints it received in the last five years and the cases that have been solved. “The apex committee keeps everything under wraps. We don’t want the details about the victims, but they should reveal the details of the cases,” CSW member Maya John said.
Maya said there were several loopholes in the system, and that cases are handled with a certain lack of sensitivity. The protesters submitted a memorandum of their demands to Vibha Chaturvedi, chairman of the committee.
