Vadodara Vadodara Police have arrested five persons and seized duplicate CDs and DVDs worth Rs 40 lakh from several parts of the city during the two-day raids at various shops in the city.

Police officers said it was the biggest seizure of the material in the last eight months. They also said the region has become a hub for pirated and duplicate CDs and DVDs.

The raids began on late Saturday night, after customers of the Mumbai-based company Moser Baer complained that many duplicate CDs and DVDs were available in the Vadodara market, said city police inspector, B N Chawda who raided a shop called Video Vision near Mandvi.

“We seized duplicate CDs and DVDs worth Rs 23 lakh from this shop,” said Chawda.

J P Road Police and Makarpura Police also conducted raids in Alkapuri and Makarpura areas.

While Makarpura Police on Sunday raided 'B4U' CD and DVD shop located in front of the Bhavan's School, J P Road Police seized CDs worth Rs 15 lakh from the shop having the same name as the one raided by police in Alkapuri.

Chawda added that this seizure could lead to a big syndicate of businessmen who have been making huge money by selling duplicate products.

The five persons arrested by the police officials for violation of the Copyright Act are Tarkesh Makhija, Jagadish Makhija, Mitesh Makhija, Pravin Thakkar and Amit Rawal.

The police have also taken in their possession eight computers equipped with DVD and CD writers.
