Vadodara, March 5 An ugly brawl over a minor road accident had Mohit Padheria, the son of the Dy SP CID (Crime), Gandhinagar allegedly brandishing his licensed revolver in the presence of a crowd on the University road on Wednesday evening in Vadodara.

Mohit reportedly got into a brawl with Khurshid Saleri, a fellow Barodian near Sayaji Baug.

Saleri has alleged that Mohit, a civil contractor with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), beat him up and threatened him with his revolver. The brawl between the duo subsided after a crowd intervened and a police van reached the spot on time. Incidentally, Mohit's father, G B Padheria, is handling the controversial Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

According to reports, the accused was driving his white Indica car GJ18AC 9101, on the wrong lane. Khurshid Saleri, a part time engineering student with the M S University was driving from Fatehgunj towards Sayajigunj on the University Road, when their cars had a near collision.

It resulted into an argument, following which Mohit reportedly beat him up. A crowd then tried to separate them. During this process, someone took away Mohit's car keys and he allegedly brandished his licensed revolver, threatening Saleri. Meanwhile, a police mobile van on the rounds in the area reached the spot and took the two into custody.

Hasan Saleri, Khurshid’s father said, “My son was going to MSU and was beaten up badly by Mohit. It was the crowd which saved his life and the police van too reached in time.”

G B Padheria also confirmed that his son had a licensed revolver of his own and kept it in his possession for self-defence, as he travelled frequently.

“I was not there, so I don't have exact idea of the sequence of events. I cannot comment much except that he must have acted purely in self-defence, as the crowd must be swelling up. His car keys were also snatched. It must have been to keep the crowd at bay,” said Padheria, adding that he would rather let the law take its own course.

Sayajigunj Police Inspector D L Zala said the revolver was used for intimidation and a cross complaint had been filed by both Saleri and Mohit against each other. Mohit has also been charged under the Arms Act for brandishing his revolver.
