Lucknow The Election Commission has banned the display of photographs of political leaders, including the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and the Ministers in all government and public offices and residences with immediate effect.

The state Chief Electoral Officer, Anuj Bishnoi, said barring the photographs of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, present President and the Governor, no other photographs or calendar with photographs of any political leader would be permitted in any government offices and residences.

In another decision, the EC has decided that the political leaders availing Z-Plus security cover and using bullet proof vehicles would have to pay for the use during electioneering.

The expenditure for the use of bulletproof vehicles would be added in the poll expense of the candidate, if they are contesting the elections or would be added in the political party expenditure.

The EC has also allowed the divisional commissioner of Meerut to hold the additional charge of the Vice-Chancellor of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University Meerut, after the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor M P Yadav.
