This was today announced by state chief electoral officer (CEO) Debashis Sen after his meeting with all district magistrates of the state. The meeting, presided over by chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti, was aimed at taking stock of the state’s poll preparedness. Earlier, such permissions used to be given by district magistrates.
The EC has also decided to set up special squads at sub-divisional levels to monitor the activities of political parties once the model code of conduct comes into force. The squads will comprise officials of the state government. “Their mobile numbers will be made available to the general public and if any person notices any violation of the model code, he or she may inform the squad members about it,” Sen said. He also said that all DMs have been instructed to distribute EPICs before March 28.
