Eden awaits Sourav-Dhoni duel

Kolkata It took the Bengal selectors all of just 30 minutes to pick the squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy one-dayers that will begin with the Bengal-Jharkhand match this Sunday at Eden Gardens.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla has been named captain of the side, while Sourav Ganguly is expectedly going to play at least in Sunday’s match. The other big selection was that of hard-hitting batsman Debabrata Das, who has been on the radar for the shorter version for quite some time now. In fact, the selectors had to expand the squad of to in order to accommodate Debabrata, who was not in the probables list of 24 owing to poor form.

Interestingly, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) surprisingly named MS Dhoni in the squad for the one-dayers, although the Indian captain hasn’t yet confirmed his participation. The JSCA is expecting Dhoni to play in at least one match.

Bengal squad: LR Shukla (capt), Sourav Ganguly, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Arindam Ghosh, Debabrata Das, Manoj Tiwary, Iresh Saxena, Ranadeb Bose, Sourav Sarkar, Ashok Dinda, Ritam Kundu, Shreevats Goswami (wk), Avik Chowdhury, Avishek Banerjee.
