Dey alleged the Thakurpukur police station had registered a criminal case on December 23, 2009 under Section 107 of the IPC against him and his mother Durga Dey on the basis of a complaint registered by a few locals that he had created disturbance in their locality. The police forwarded the FIR to the Alipore court on December 31.

The court had issued summons on January 31, 2010 and it was returned to the court as the mother-son duo was not found in their residence. Dey said he had come to know of the case registered against him on February 1 and he and his mother moved the court on Tuesday for bail. The Alipore court granted bail to them.

During the hearing on December 22, Dey’s counsel had pleaded that the Thakurpukur police had threatened him and they might further implicate him in false cases. On January 8, Dey lodged a complaint with the Thakurpukur police station that his letter box had been burnt. He also brought it to the notice of the High Court.

Advocate General Bolai Roy had assured the Division Bench, headed by Chief Justice Mohit S Shah during the hearing on January 8 that the state government would take necessary steps for the security of Dey.

Dey said he had filed a PIL on the improper use of the National Emblem on January 9, 2009. He alleged in the petition that police vehicles, police stations and different offices used the National Emblem in an illegal manner. As a result of this, he was being harassed by the police, he alleged.
