Students who have scored 75 per cent or above in Class X, and the annual income of whose parents is less than Rs 1 lakh, will be eligible for the scholarship.
Director Public Instructions (Schools) Samwartak Singh said that a committee formed by the department had shortlisted names of around 200 students from various government schools across the city for the scheme and sent the communication to the NGO.
“The organisation will further decide on the names of the students who will be awarded. The scholarship amount that will be given to them is also yet to be finalised,” he said.
Praising the initiative of the department, Dr Vinod Sharma, president, Government Teachers’ Union said, “It is a very noble decision on the department’s part. At times, bright students have to cut short their dreams and aspirations because of financial constraints. This scheme will definitely give a much-needed impetus to needy students.”
