Chandigarh With an aim to arm its students with expert knowledge, the Panjab University is all set to introduce the Eduset programme in various centres. This will include a facility through which students in different centres affiliated to the PU will be able to access faculty lectures through the Internet.

A brainchild of Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti, the project got the final approval in a meeting of the Board of Finance held recently. The budget for the same is yet to be approved.

The project will start with the commencement of the new academic session and can be availed by students of the University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET) in the regional centre at Hoshiarpur and students of the University Business School (UBS) in the regional centre at Ludhiana.

Talking to Newsline, Professor Sobti said: “There is a shortage of faculty at various regional centres and Eduset will help students avail the lectures through the Internet. The faculty at UBS and UIET will record the lectures, which would be sent to the centres through the Internet.”

Once the project starts at the regional centres, it will be extended to the affiliated colleges of PU. The students will also be able to clear their doubts regarding various topics.

Sahil Nanda, president, PU Students’ Council, said: “The proposal is good and our friends in affiliated colleges and regional centres will now get guidance from the experts.”
