Eetee sails into u-16 and u-14 singles final

Chandigarh, January 31 Eetee Mehta of Gujarat breezed through her semi-final encounter against Harnoor Kaur Mann of Chandigarh in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to cruise into the girls’ u-16 singles final of the AITA Championship Series being played at Lake Club Sports Complex on Thursday. Mehta also sailed into the girls’ u-14 singles final defeating fourth seed Simran Sethi of Chandigarh 6-3, 6-3. In the another girls' u-14 singles semi-final encounter, top seed Likhita Shetty of Karnataka ended the challenge of eighth seed Rimpledeep Kaur of Punjab with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

It was also a day to remember for local girl Ravnoor Kaur who sailed into the girls’ u-16 singles final and girls’ u-14 doubles final. In the second semi-final of the u-16 singles category, Ravnoor Kaur, who had earlier ousted fourth seed Iktesh Chahal and eighth seed Jaspreet Kaur, outplayed second seed Baljinder Kaur of Punjab in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Ravnoor will now face Eetee Mehta in the girls’ u-16 final. In the girls’ u-16 doubles final, the duo of Bhavika Wadhawan and Ravnoor Kaur will face Iktesh Chahal and Pooja A Narayana.

In the first semi-final, the duo of Bhavika Wadhawan and Ravnoor Kaur powered to a 7-6(1), 7-5 victory over Baljinder Kaur of Haryana and Sabatini Ankaraju of Andhra Pradesh. They will meet the duo of Iktesh Chahal of Chandigarh and Pooja A Narayana of Delhi who defeated Vaibhavi Trivedi and Eetee Mehta of Gujarat in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

In the boys’ under-16 final, top seed Naveen Kumar of Uttar Pradesh will face third seed Gurinder Singh of Punjab. In the first semi-final, top seed Naveen Kumar sailed past fifth seed Naveen Shanker of Chandigarh with a 6-2, 6-3 win. However second seed Maninder Singh of Haryana was stunned by third seed Gurinder Singh of Punjab who recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win in the second semi-final.

In the boys’ u-14 singles category, Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainee third seed Digvijay Singh Naruka marched into the final with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over Sunny Dahiya of Haryana. After winning the first set, Naruka was stretched in the second set before he won the final set by 6-2. in the second semi-final, second seed Kamal Kishore Maderena of Rajasthan could not prevent a 6-2, 6-1 mauling by Vilash Khate of National Tennis Academy.

Girls U-14 singles : Shetty (Kar) bt Rimpledeep Kaur (Pb) 6-0, 6-1, Eetee Mehta (Guj) bt Simran Sethi (Delhi) 6-3, 6-3; U-16 singles : Eetee Mehta (Guj) bt Harnoor Kaur Mann (Chd) 6-2, 6-2, Ravnoor Kaur (Chd) bt Baljinder Kaur (Hry) 6-0, 6-4; U-16 doubles : Bhavika Wadhawan/Ravnoor Kaur (Chd) bt Baljinder Kaur (Haryana)/Sabatini Ankaraju (AP) 7-6 (1), 7-5, IktteshChahal (Chd)/Pooja A Narayana (Delhi) bt Vaibhavi Trivedi (Guj)/Eetee Mehta (Guj) 6-4, 6-3.
