Eight seeds crash out on Day 2 of AITA-BTA meet

Kolkata As many as eight seeds tumbled out on the second day of the AITA-BTA Championship Series 2009 that is being played in the memory of the late Dilip Bose at the BTA complex here.

Wild card Shukrit Guha defeated sixth seed from Rajasthan Arpit Sharma 6-4, 6-2 in the first round before going down to Ayush Dharewa 4-6, 1-6 in the pre quarter-finals of the boys’ singles Under-18 event.

Qualifier Ansh Patel from Gujarat defeated seventh seeded Rithvik Anand from Tamil Nadu 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the third upset of this event, Om Dalvi of Maharashtra ousted the eighth seeded Pradeep Deswal of Andhra in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

In the boys’ singles Under-14 event, Shakti Ray of Orissa upset the sixth seed Tamil Nadu boy Venkkata N Ramanan 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.

In the girls’ singles Under-14 round, Hanisha Vasi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh defeated the seventh seed from Maharashtra Ishika Chakraborty 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In the girls’ singles Under-18 circuit, Lavanya Sarvanan of Tamil Nadu ousted the fourth seed from Bihar Sripriya Sarraf 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 and then beat Snigdha Kapoor 6-1, 6-3 to book a quarter-final berth. Local girl Arundhuti Basu, a wild card, defeated fifth seed Vidya Bharath of Karnataka 6-2, 6-0. Another wild card Megha Sehrawat of Delhi got the better of eighth seed Aandrita Deb of Kolkata 6-4, 6-1 and Shreya Pasricha of Uttar Pradesh disposed off the sixth seed from Bihar Taniya Hassan 6-0, 6-0.
