The police said Chandersingh Kundnani, a former lawyer in his mid-eighties, his wife Kamla, in her seventies, and the servant had been together inside the house on the first floor at Nityanand Nagar Society.

Senior police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi said, “The bodies were found by the maid who had come in the afternoon for washing clothes. When she rang the bell and got no response, she opened the door with a key she had with her. On venturing inside, she found the bodies and informed the police.”

The police said Kamla seems to have been strangled with her dupatta while cutting vegetables in the kitchen whereas Chandersingh, who was bedridden, was found smothered to death with a pillow. The servant, whose name has not been disclosed by the police, is missing.

They also found a cupboard open, leading them to believe that robbery was the motive behind the murder. “However, as of now, we have no idea whether anything is missing from the house or what has been stolen as we have not found anyone who knew what the couple had kept in the house,” said Suryavanshi.

He said the servant had been hired specifically for helping Chandersingh in his walks, massages and other household work, around 25 days ago on the reference of a security guard at the building. The security guard has been detained for questioning.
