Mumbai An elderly couple was robbed at gunpoint at their residence in Malad while they were alone at home with their servant on Saturday night.

According to the complaint by Jyoti Ramchandra Bijla (67), she and her ailing husband were alone at their flat in Acme Complex on Mulund Link Road when their servant answered the door bell and three unidentified youths walked into the house.

The accused posed as delivery boys and forced their way into the flat.

“According to the complainant, her husband was seriously ill and they had ordered some medicines for him. When the servant answered the door bell, the accused claimed that they had come to deliver those medicines. As soon as the servant opened the door to take the parcel, the youths rushed in and threatened the family with a gun,” said Senior Police Inspector Maruti Rathod from Malad police station.

Police officials said that the men tied up Bijla and their 16 year-old servant and locked them up in the bedroom where Bijla’s husband was sleeping. They stole jewellery, Rs 7 lakh in cash and cell phones from the wardrobe in the other bedroom.

The accused then robbed the house of valuables and cash amounting to Rs 9.93 lakh. The police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
