Elderly woman found murdered in West Delhi

New Delhi A senior citizen was found smothered to death in her residence on New Year’s Eve in Kirti Nagar in West Delhi. Police said that the 68-year-old victim, Sheila Rani, lived alone in her flat on the first floor, B3-11B.

Police said that Rani’s neighbour noticed that her door was ajar and went in to inquire. They found her lying still in her cot and immediately called the police around 12.45 am.

She was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyayay Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Her body has been transferred to the mortuary and is awaiting postmortem.

Prima facie, police suspect that she was stifled to death with a pillow. Rani’s husband, Baldev Raj, a businessman, died 13 years ago.

Sheila had an adopted daughter, who was married a year ago. There was no robbery in the house. A murder case has been registered and investigations are on.
