Lucknow The final photo electoral rolls of the state, published by the Election Commission on Thursday, indicated that the number of voters has increased by around four lakh.

According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, around 19.8 lakh voters were added to the list while about 15.25 lakh voters were deleted. “The net growth in the number of voters is around 0.33 per cent,” said A K Bisnoi, Chief Electoral Officer.

The total number of voters in the state was about 11.62 crore and the rolls have photographs of about 72 per cent voters.

Even after the publication of final rolls, new names can be added. “The final publication means that the Commission will not be at your doorstep to get your name added in the rolls. Now one will have to fill up a form on their own to have their name added,” said an official. “The names of a voter in the list of any constituency can be added till the last date of filing the nomination papers,” he added.

As for citizens who have changed their addresses within a constituency have to fill form 8A, and those who have shifted from one constituency to another have to use form 6.

The Commission will be holding meetings with chief secretaries and the Director General of Police of all states on February 5 and 6. It will also be conducting a meeting with the political parties. The Commission has already started keeping a close watch on the transfer and postings of the officers in the state.
