The Department of Physiology and Biochemistry at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on ‘Problem-oriented Learning in Physiology and Biochemistry” in the Dumra auditorium on Saturday. The CME witnessed a four-hour accreditation programme by the Punjab Medical Council.

Vice-president of the DMCH Managing Society, Gian Chand Dhawan, was the chief guest on the occasion. Other dignitaries who were present on the occasion included Balraj Kumar, Satish Sanwalka, Vice-principal Dr J Wig, Dean Academics Dr SC Chopra and Medical Superintendent and Member of Punjab Medical Council Dr B S Shah. Organising secretaries Dr Navjot Bajwa and Dr Lily Walia extended a warm welcome to the delegates.

DMCH Principal Dr Daljit Singh spoke on the topic, ‘Problem-based learning in pysiology and biochemistry’ in which he emphasised upon integrated teaching for medical students involving basic sciences and clinical subjects. Dr Gurdip Bedi and Dr Nandini Kapoor chaired the session.

During his lecture, Dr Sabyasachi Sircar, professor at the Department of Physiology; UCMS Shahdra, spoke on the topic, ‘Learning to find a problem in what is taught’.

He said that students should be encouraged to ask questions for better learning and in depth knowledge of any subject. The chairpersons of the session were Dr Jasbinder Kaur, Dr Sushila Gahlot and Dr Kuldip Sodhi

Dr Dinesh Puri, professor and Head of Biochemistry department at UCMS Shahdra, discussed ‘Learning outcomes in undergraduate students of a traditional curriculum in a problem-based learning set up’. The chairpersons of the session were Dr John Pramod, Dr Panag and Dr Gurjit Kaur.
