New Delhi Argentine Gerardo Mazzini pumped in half-a-dozen as defending champions Elevation got off to a roaring start, drubbing a hapless Horse & Wagon 14 - 6 ½ in the opening match of the Scindia Gold Cup polo tournament at the Jaipur Polo Grounds on Wednesday.

Horse & Wagon were awarded a 1 ½ goal on handicap, but that proved to be grossly insufficient as Mazzini and Bhawani Kalvi guided Elevation to a comfortable win. Tournaments highest rated player with a handicap of +7, Mazzini began by converting a penalty soon after the throw-in before setting up another for Kalvi.

Adhiraj Singh and Angad Kalan scored one goal apiece as the first chukker ended with Horse & Wagon holding on to a slender half-a-goal lead. Their inexperience was evident in the second chukker with Horse & Wagon committing a lot of fouls, allowing Elevation to take the lead. The champions scored 7 goals in the third & fourth chukker while conceding only one to send a warning to other teams.

On Thursday, Jindal/ Sahgal take on Himalayan Horse while Cavalry (Red) face Horse & Wagon.
