A visit to Ghumar Mandi this afternoon revealed that a majority of them had displayed their products outside the shops as usual. The fish market, too, had returned.
Besides, the one-way road of Ghumar Mandi could not ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Apart from encroachments, vehicles were also parked haphazardly congesting the roads further.
Tehbazari Superintendent Naveen Malhotra said, “I have sought more force from the Mayor to remove the encroachments. Though the shopkeepers had promised to abide by the rules, they took no time in flouting the same. We will visit the market after this weekend.”
Area councillor Gurpreet Gogi agreed about the problem, but said, “A majority of the shopkeepers never go beyond the footpath and the market is not congested because of them. In fact, good sense should prevail over commuters who park their vehicles just about anywhere thinking that the road is one-way. We find it hard to cross the market in busy hours. The very purpose of the one-way traffic has been defeated.”
Shopkeepers, too, disagreed that they were causing much problem and passed the buck on the commuters.
