There’s hope in sight for the unlettered. Ya, the very same who claim they can walk Englis, talk Englis and sleep Englis-because English is a very funny language. All ye who fret at holding a decent conversation in the Queen’s tongue can relax now, for picking up tips on speaking fluent English is just channel surf away.

Continuing with their trend of value-addition programme, still fresh on the channel surfer’s remote, just six weeks after its launch, NDTV Imagine is introducing “Angrezi mein kehtey hain...” a classroom scenario sitcom enabling any and every viewer to brush up their spoken English skills.

And who should be imparting those skills but the petite Parsi miss Shernaz Patel, a Charles Wallace scholar and very talented stage and celluloid actor in her own right.

“It’s a simple show aimed at helping people who have a problem with holding a conversation in English and who are unsure with their diction and usage,” says Shailja Kejriwal, EVP Content, “It’s the channel’s second such attempt after Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan which has helped so many women improve their dancing skills guided by a renowned choreographer.”

“We chose Shernaz because she is perfect for the job-she always reminds me of my English teacher-the prim warm English Miss, not looking down at you but helping you be better,” says Kejriwal.

On her part, a relaxed Shernaz celebrated her return to the small screen with her characteristic impish smile and said it really didn’t matter to her whether she was cast on small screen, big screen or stage as long as she was doing a good job of it. “I think of the three I find film most challenging. Theatre comes naturally to me,” she confided.

The lovely lady, who enchanted with her portrayal of Rani Mukherjee’s mother in the much-acclaimed Black will also be seen very soon again on the big screen in Little Zizou.

However she confesses theatre is her first and enduring love. “Even after coming into films most theatre veterans have maintained their links with the stage because they draw their ultimate appreciation from a live audience. It’s a very exhilarating experience.”
