Committee chairman Asit Vora said the entry fee and train fares would fetch around Rs 1.25 crore in a year. He also hinted at the creation of a package rate instead of the current system of charging separate fees for various entertainment facilities. BJP AMC leader Dr Kamlesh Patel said the charges worked out on Tuesday were already at subsidised rates.

While entry at the Lake Front will be free for all from 4 to 8 am, it will be free throughout the day for disabled persons and children up to five years of age. Senior citizens over 70 and Freedom Fighters will also be given free entry on production of an identity card, said sources.

During 8 am to 9 pm, the entry fee for children between five and 12 years will be Rs 5 and those who are above 12, will have to pay Rs 10. However, the students who visit in a group of 50 or more will be charged only one rupee per person.

It was also decided to issue a monthly pass of Rs 100. It will also allow the pass holders to take an evening walk on the Lake Front between 7 and 11 pm. The Lake Front including the zoo and the Balvatika will remain closed on Mondays. However, it will remain open on all days from 4 to 8 am. No tickets will be issued for the Lake Front after 10 pm, said sources.
