The police station will deal with cases pertaining to financial and economic frauds, land and building rackets, cyber crime, intellectual property rights and other kinds of economic offences.
Earlier, though the Economic Offences Wing had a registered office at the Qutab Institutional Area, it failed to register any cases.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar Verma said: “Earlier, if an economic offence occurred at a particular place, the case was registered at the local police station. After that, the Economic Wing office took up its investigations. Now, such cases will be directly registered at this Malviya Nagar police station.”
The idea of setting up such a police station was floated by Economic Offences Wing Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prabhakar, during K K Paul’s tenure as the police chief.
“The police station will function from a building inside the Police Training School complex in Malviya Nagar. It will be open to the public for 24 hours,” said S B K Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing.
