Ludhiana An e-readiness centre for textile exporters and manufacturers was inaugurated at the Sportking Institute of Fashion Technology by Ludhiana Additional District Commissioner Kuldeep Singh on Friday.

The centre, a joint initiative of Microsoft India and the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, aims at developing small and medium enterprises.

Rajeev Sodhi, Director of Emerging Geographies, Microsoft India, said:

“We hope to provide training to textile exporters so that they can reach out to the international markets. The project has already been launched in ten clusters in the country and 15 more will be opened shortly.”

Indiamart.com is the online marketing partner for the project where any textile company can register itself free of cost and look for new buyers and markets.

“Ludhiana has over 10,000 small-scale industries engaged in textile manufacturing but lags far behind in information technology upgrades,” said Vinod Thaper, president of the Federation of Knitwear, Textile and Allied Industry Associations.
