The owners of dyeing units heaved a sigh of relief today evening after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board (ppcb) to restore power supply to erring factories. The units have been given time till March 31 to modify their effluent treatment plants or to rectify the shortcomings, if any. The electricity supply to 61 industries was disconnected on the orders of the High Court for not adhering to the zero-discharge norms.
Industrialists led by Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda met the chief minister and PPCB Chairman Yogesh Goel on Tuesday evening at Chandigarh.
V K Goyal, one of the members of the federation of dyeing factories association, said, “The CM has asked the PPCB Chairman to re-check all the 61 dyeing units whose power has been disconnected and in case they are discharging their treated effluents in the Buddha Nallah, power will be restored.”
Rajat Sood, another member, said, “All the units are treating their effluents and are discharging it in the MC sewer. Earlier, direct discharge of treated effluents was being done, but after the sewer lines in Tajpur Road became operational, the discharge is through sewer. Zero-discharge is not possible.”
Dhanda, while advocating for the industry, said, “The units have given an undertaking that they are treating their effluents and hence not causing any pollution to the Buddha Nallah.” According to the notices sent by the PPCB, a number of dyeing units had non-functional effluent treatment plants while a few others had failed sample testing. Once again, the entire exercise has been rendered futile following political interference.

the case in high court is to clean buddha nala, no one is doing their duty to clean it, rather they are blaming the industry which has already put up etp,s to clean their factories. the treated water of factories goes in sewer lines which mixes with untreated domestic sewer which is more toxic. no body has gone through the high court orders. no orders are there to close the units. orders are to the govt to clean the nullaha . the officer,s are playing a blame game rather than to do the actual work what is needed. three stp,s are being put up in ludhiana . if proper management is done the salution is there in these plants . but nobody understand,s or ready to understand . the reason best known to them all
