The error was spotted in question number 13 (a) in the Bengali version of the mathematics paper, whereby the unit of one quantity was in centimetre square and the other dimension was in metre. On the other hand, in the English, Hindi and Urdu version, the unit of the dimension was in metre and the area was in metre square.
Since majority of candidates have opted for the Bengali version, a large number of candidates are expected to be affected by this error.
Similarly, question number (10 b) was said to be outside the Madhyamik syallabus.
According to Board officials, a decision will be taken after the question is examined by the expert committee.
Subhro Guha Roy, maths teacher of Sakhawat Memorial Girls High School, said: “Both the questions were difficult to answer.” “This error was not desirable. All versions should be the same,” said Mamata Ray, president of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Despite promises of ensuring proper power supply during the examination, few centres had to face power cuts. The president of the Board admitted that Piary Charan Girls High School in North Kolkata faced a power cut — for 10 minutes — when she had gone to visit the institute.
