The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has issued notices to 50 schools in Lucknow to submit their share for the welfare of their employees at the earliest. Giving the details during a medical camp organised in Lucknow on Monday, the assistant director of ESIC, SS Srivastava, said private school teachers have been under ESIC cover since July 2008.
“Following a government order dated July 5, 2008, the state government has also included the private school teachers in ESIC. We have already notified to the schools that they should submit their contributions for their employees at the earliest,” said Srivastava.
Incidentally, since ESI is primarily a scheme for welfare of employees, the employer’s failure in doing so can have them penalised.
“Under Sect 85 (a) and (e), non-payment of contribution and non-submission of returns by the company are punishable offences. The date of submitting the ESI for last year ended on November 30, 2008. Only Rani Laksmi Bai School and Seth MR Jaipuria School have submitted their contribution so far. We have asked other schools to act at the earliest,” said Srivastava.
For the benefit of the ESI card holders, a medical camp will be organised in Sarojini Nagar on January 19, followed by another one in Mohan Meakin campus at Daliganj on January 24.
On January 31, yet another camp will be organised at Rae Bareli.
