A brainchild of Director Higher Education Raji P Srivastava, the proposal does not seem to have gone down well with teachers at different colleges. With faculty showing resistance, the proposal could not be implemented.
Talking to Newsline, Srivastava said: “There are many proposals which we plan but they may or may not be implemented. This proposal was to be implemented only if the faculty approved it. They did not like the proposal, so it was never implemented.”
Srivastava had written to all the colleges to make a performa for the students to fill. The aim behind the proposal was to improve interaction between teachers and students and involve students in improving the academic system. College principals as well as the faculty, however, were not convinced with the idea. Many believed it would be unfair on the part of a college management to initiate action against them based on the feedback form.
Sources in the Education department, moreover, said nothing concrete was done to implement the proposal. A college principal said: “No doubt the proposal would have been beneficial. At college level, students are not that young and during evaluation, they might end up being biased. We thus decided to not implement the proposal.”
Many colleges, meanwhile, believe that putting up a suggestion box is a better idea where the students can post their suggestions to improve the standard of education in the city.
